In his "reminiscences of St. Stephen's Parish," Samuel Dubose attributes the plantation of Tower Hill to John Couturier. The stately columned home that stands there today, however, is of more recent origin, built in
1936 by Mr. and Mrs. Edward St. Julien Marion (of the Francis Marion family). In 1977, Mrs. Marion made a generous donation of this home and 15 acres of surrounding pinelands to the Episcopal Order of the Holy Cross. Today it exists as a monastery, Holy Savior Priory, where guests are welcome. Here you find the expected: respite from our modern fast-paced society. You can also find the unexpected: an interesting variety of incense being blended in the cellar. The aromas mingle
delicately, filling the house with the essence of frankincense and myrrh. |
