| In the lean years after the Revolution, more timber was cut along the Santee and floods and fever became prevalent. Many noticed that the fevers were less common among those who lived in the pinelands. To
this end, Pineville was established and, for a time, became a thriving community with a school, library, racetrack and independent church. Pineville Chapel was constructed in 1810 and is one of the few buildings that survived Union destruction under General Potter in 1865. This chapel is in its original condition and sunburst gouge friezes and paladian interior door. | |
