Quinby Creek

Directions
Take I-26 from Charleston to Moncks Corner and follow Hwy. 52 until you pass over the Tail Race Canal then turn right at the first red light on Hwy. 402. Follow 402 for thirteen miles. Turn right into Huger Park and follow to the landing. Paddle right after you launch and be sure to take the time to paddle the small creeks that lead away from the main creek. Huger Creek intersects with Quinby and the Cooper River about three miles into your paddle. Quinby is the smaller creek on your left at this intersection. Follow Quinby approximately two miles to the landing on your left at Cainhoy Road. To reach Quinby takeout, turn right after you leave Huger Park and follow Hwy. 402 until it connects with Hwy. 41. Take your first right on Cainhoy Road and the boat landing is on your right a short distance from this point. Your trip can be taken in either direction depending on tides.

Description
This is a beautiful trip with great opportunities to view both wildlife and wildflowers. This trip offers the paddler a chance to unwind from the daily stress of life and take in some of the best of what nature offers. Beautiful trees and vistas of the lowcountry are part of this relaxing trip.

Wildlife
You can expect to see alligators, fish, snakes, river otters, ducks, and many birds of prey on this trip.

History
Battles during the Revolutionary War in 1781 were fought in this area & historic plantations are located on and near these two creeks.

Time
Your paddle to each take out will take four hours or more depending on how much you explore and the tide flow. High tide is approximately 4 hours behind Charleston tides.

Hazards
Occasional boat traffic and strong currents. Most danger can come from wasp or venomous snakes that might be encountered if you paddle into the bushes.
