Berkeley County Million Dollar Duck Race To benefit the Callen-Lacey Center for Children
What is the Duck Race? The Duck Race is a fund-raising event for Callen-Lacey
When and where is the Duck Race? This year’s race will be held on Saturday, July 7th during the Moncks Corner Fourth of July Festival at
the Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner, SC. The ducks will be released into Biggins Creek at the Park at approximately 4:30 pm.
Are you racing real ducks? No, we are racing 10,000 rubber ducks.
How does this Duck Race work? For a $5 per duck donation to Callen-Lacey, you will be given an adoption paper which has your lucky duck
number on it. The 10,000 rubber ducks will be dumped into Biggins Creek. All ducks will have tags on them corresponding to the Lucky Duck numbers held by their adoptive
parents. The ducks will race down the Creek and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
What are the prizes? There are 6 grand prizes and a minimum of 50 smaller prizes. The smaller prizes range from a weekend getaway to
gift certificates for dinner, movies, etc.
I heard something about a million dollars? An independent insurance agent in Texas will send us a computer-generated duck number. If
the pre-selected number matches the number on the duck which crosses the finish line first, the adoptive parents will win a $1 million annuity (payable over 20 years).
How can I adopt a duck? Adoptions for this year’s race will begin May 14th, 2001. You can call Duck Central (761-5360) or check this
website at a later date for adoption locations.
What is the deadline for duck adoptions? We do have a limited number of ducks - 10,000. You are encouraged to join the fun and make
your adoption ASAP.
Where do the proceeds go? 100% of the proceeds from duck adoptions will go directly to the Callen-Lacey Center for Children.
Do you need volunteers or help with the fund-raiser? Yes. You would need to speak to Nicole Kilgus or Pari-Smart at Duck Central,
phone number 761-5360.
